4 Days from Marrakech through the Moroccan desert
Discovering Morocco means immersing yourself in a world of vibrant colors, exotic scents, and breathtaking landscapes. One of the best ways to experience the country’s magic is through a four-day tour from Marrakech through the Moroccan Desert—a journey that takes you across mountains, kasbahs, lush oases, and the golden dunes of the Sahara.
Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Dades Valley
Our adventure begins in Marrakech, the “Red City,” as we depart early in the morning towards the Atlas Mountains. We will cross the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m above sea level), enjoying stunning panoramic views of the rugged mountain terrain.
Ait Ben Haddou: The Berber Gem
Our first stop is the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved ksars (fortified villages) in Morocco. With its adobe streets and ancient history, this site has served as a filming location for Hollywood movies such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones.
Ouarzazate and the Dades Valley
We continue to Ouarzazate, known as the “Gateway to the Desert”, where we visit the imposing Kasbah of Taourirt. Our journey then takes us to the Dades Valley, a region filled with spectacular rock formations and deep gorges sculpted by the river. We spend the night in a traditional riad with breathtaking views.
Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Merzouga
After a traditional Moroccan breakfast, we head toward the Todra Gorges, a dramatic canyon with towering cliffs that reach up to 300 meters (984 feet) high. This area is a paradise for hiking enthusiasts and photographers.
Merzouga: The Gateway to the Sahara
Continuing our journey, we arrive at Merzouga, the starting point of our Sahara Desert adventure. Here, we swap our vehicle for camels, embarking on a magical trek across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi.
As the sun sets, we reach our Berber desert camp, where we enjoy a traditional dinner under a sky full of stars, accompanied by live Berber music around the campfire.
Day 3: Merzouga – Rissani – Draa Valley – Ouarzazate
We wake up before dawn to witness the mesmerizing sunrise over the dunes, a truly unforgettable moment. After breakfast at the camp, we ride camels back to Merzouga and continue our journey.
Rissani: The Cradle of the Alaouite Dynasty
Our next stop is Rissani, a historic town known for its traditional market, where donkeys are still used as a means of transport. Here, we explore the local culture and cuisine, including the famous Berber pizza.
Draa Valley and Its Palm Groves
We drive through the lush Draa Valley, home to one of Morocco’s largest palm groves. Along the way, we discover ancient kasbahs and traditional Berber villages, offering a glimpse into the authentic Moroccan lifestyle.
By late afternoon, we arrive in Ouarzazate, where we spend the night in a charming riad.
Day 4: Ouarzazate – High Atlas – Marrakech
On the final day of our journey, we travel back to Marrakech, crossing the High Atlas Mountains once again. Along the way, we stop at traditional Berber villages and enjoy our last glimpses of Morocco’s stunning landscapes.
Arrival in Marrakech
By afternoon, we return to Marrakech, where you have the chance to explore the famous Jemaa el-Fna Square, filled with snake charmers, street food stalls, and lively performances—a perfect way to end this unforgettable 4-day Moroccan desert tour.
